Lesley K Fellows, MD, PhD

Dr. Fellows is a Full Professor in the Department of Neurology & Neurosurgery and Staff Neurologist at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (The Neuro) and Royal Victoria Hospital, with a subspecialty in Cognitive-Behavioural Neurology. She leads The Neuro’s Cognitive Neuroscience research group.

  • Originally from New Brunswick, Dr. Fellows completed her BSc in Physiology and her MDCM at McGill (1996), where she also completed her residency in Neurology. Before beginning her medical training, she earned a DPhil (Physiology) as a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cognitive neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania, before joining McGill’s faculty in 2004.
  • Dr. Fellows’ fundamental research focuses on understanding the brain basis of complex human behaviour, with an emphasis on frontal lobe functions and decision-making. She is interested in how “brain health”: that is, both cognitive and mental health, can be optimized for people living with chronic neurological and medical conditions.
  • Dr. Fellows has published over 125 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and reviews, serves on the editorial boards of several journals, and is a frequent speaker at scientific meetings. She has served as Interim Chair of the Department of Neurology & Neurosurgery (2010-2013), Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs in the Faculty of Medicine (2016-2018), and currently is Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences. Dr. Fellows has supervised numerous students, residents, and fellows and has received fellowships and awards for her research and teaching endeavours.
