Alexandra de Pokomandy, MD, MSc

Dr. de Pokomandy is an Associate Professor and Director of Research at the department of Family Medicine, McGill University, and
Scientist at the Research Institute – McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). She is also a Family Physician and HIV specialist, MUHC

  • de Pokomandy’s research focuses on improving primary care and preventing comorbidities related to viral diseases in marginalized populations, particularly for people living with HIV, and on cancer related to human papillomavirus (HPV). Most of her research projects are cohort studies or clinical trials, and she is particularly experienced using patient engagement approaches. Her work as a clinician scientist aims to recognize patient health concerns and make improvements to clinical practices that will benefit individuals who suffer most from inequities.
  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. de Pokomandy was involved in caring for hospitalized patients with COVID-19, and co-led the CoVivre Programme aiming to inform, protect and support marginalized communities during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Greater Montreal area, in collaboration with community organizations (https://sherpa-recherche.com/en/sherpa/partner-projects/covivre-program/).
